First-class chamber music in a beautiful setting is on offer over ten days at Paxton House in the Scottish Borders during July. A range of top-flight chamber music will be performed by brilliant musicians in an exciting and captivating programme exclusively at the House, with performances from morning until dusk. Promising something for everyone, the Festival includes a celebration of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ 150th anniversary, artists-in-residence the Maxwell Quartet performing Roxanna Panufnik’s The Audience, delivered by acclaimed tenor and broadcaster Jamie MacDougall as part of Visit Scotland’s Year of Stories, alongside Brahms and Haydn; Mezzo-soprano Dame Sarah Connolly performs the Scottish Première of Mark-Anthony Turnage’s Songs of Sleep and Regret alongside Samuel Barber, Chausson, and Kurt Weill, while pianist Pavel Kolesnikov presents a centenary celebration of Marcel Proust featuring work by Schubert, Couperin, Hahn, Fauré and Franck, with Samson Tsoy; outstanding young musicians Echéa Quartet (pictured), accordionist Ryan Corbett and BBC Next Generation Artists Mithras Piano Trio. Pianist Angela Hewitt closes the festival with Mozart’s Piano Sonatas and works by Bach and Chopin.
