The Consone Quartet are in their second year as Music at Paxton’s Associate Ensemble, and my Edinburgh Music Review colleague Brian Bannatyne-Scott was very impressed last year with the distinctive sound of their period instruments with gut strings, and the lovely way they worked together.
The Picture Gallery at Paxton House is sold out for the first concert of this year’s Music at Paxton Festival. The Paxton Estate, like other parts of the eastern Borders, was severely hit by Storm Arwen and lost many trees, but the grounds are colourful with floral tubs, the Marquee is in place, and the Picture Gallery is back to full capacity last year’s very welcome, but still distanced events.
Music at Paxton announced their programme in April amid optimism. At last live music! Between now and then, things have got more difficult than we all anticipated, and Paxton have had to make a number of last-minute adjustments.
