Music at Paxton is a small festival with a big reputation, and we invite you to become one of our supporters.

The Picture Gallery is an intimate venue with limited capacity. Whilst this creates the most wonderful atmosphere for our concerts, allowing audiences a closeness to the performers that is impossible at most concert venues, it also means that we are unable to meet the costs of the Festival through box office sales alone.

We have a range of ways in which you can support the Festival, and would welcome your involvement.

Music at Paxton is committed to providing opportunities for emerging artists, young people, and the Scottish Borders communities to experience and enjoy live music. This year alone, we are featuring:

  • Our first commission – 3 songs by rising composer Sarah Cattley set to words by 20th century female poets and performed by baritone Roderick Williams.
    presented in partnership with the RVW Trust and Thaxted Festival
  • Roderick Williams shares the concert stage with outstanding young baritone Jerome Knox as part of the ‘Momentum’ an initiative supporting young professional musicians post-Covid.
  • A repeat of our successful and enthralling Masterclass for young singers.
  • Exciting, prize-winning young musicians, including the Echéa String Quartet, Scottish accordionist Ryan Corbett, and the Mithras Piano Trio (BBC New Generation Artists).
  • Events especially designed for young children and family audiences, including a new music and art project for primary schools (for 2023).
  • Pre-concert talks, a round-table discussion, and Q&As for curious minds of all ages!

We have already received a generous donation of £1,500 to launch an appeal to assist in building on our engagement and outreach work next year and beyond. We aim to raise £5,000 before the end of the 2022, and a further £3,000 in both 2023 and 2024, and we invite you to contribute to this exciting project, enabling us to share the transformative power of music with the widest range of participants. All gifts, large or small, will make a difference.

Your donation could help us to:

  • support young, emerging artists in their early career, providing high-profile opportunities for them to create and perform, and facilitating new partnerships with established musicians (as with the Maxwell Quartet & Imogen Cooper in 2021)
  • present family-inspired events, including relaxed concerts and interactive music sessions that offer families and young people an accessible and fun-filled introduction to music.
  • take music into schools and other community settings across the Scottish Borders in partnership with Live Music Now Scotland, providing access to those who would otherwise be unable to experience the joy of live music.

How your donation could help

£25 – £50
could help with subsidised tickets for young people to attend our concerts, or help young musicians to participate in masterclasses;

£50 – £100
could help with travel costs for outreach work across the Scottish Borders, or help us to deliver music sessions for babies and toddlers;

£100 – £250
could help us to engage an animateur to work with schools, or support collaborations between young musicians and established artists;

£250 – £500
could contribute to new commissions;

could contribute to new ensemble residencies.

Become a Volunteer

We are always looking for volunteers to join our small friendly team. There is much to do before and during the Festival, and you could help with a range of tasks, including ushering at concerts, distributing print publicity, assistance with large mailings, and providing overnight accommodation for performers and instrument technicians. You would be an important part of the Festival, and this is a great way to become more involved with the house and music.
