Clara Schumann was one of Europe’s finest professional pianists – she toured Scotland in 1867 – but her composing ambitions were sadly curtailed by contemporary social constraints. Her enchanting Romances, along with her husband Robert’s, pave the way for the magisterial Horn Trio by Brahms, a young protégé of Robert and Clara. Written after a summer holiday in 1865, the Trio evokes the sounds of the beautiful German Black Forest region.

“A deep, eloquent tone, making every line sing, and all delivered with remarkable poise and flair.” –The Birmingham Post on Savitri Grier
